Visions & Objectives of NALC


Average life expectancy of the Japanese has now reached to almost 80 years old. We need to reflect upon ourselves how we would make use of affordable time we have hereafter. 
NALC as NPO, is an unique organization which volunteers join, preferably with their spouses, under a motto of "Self help, Voluntariness and Mutual help". NALC encourages one to find joy in contributing to the people and to the society through one's voluntary activities along with "Be active lifelong" as password.
Self help
It implies staying healthy and independent spiritually enough to lead high quality of life.
Voluntariness
It implies finding joy in contributing to the society as lifelong volunteers.
Mutual help
It implies that members help members on mutual basis for better life under Time Dollar system

Organization & Management

Organization
NALC is an organization which reflects opinions of members across the country. Its general meeting takes place annually to discuss on activity schemes, accounting and budgeting of the year, and elects directors of the board. Prior to the general meeting, activity schemes are deliberated at local chapter representatives' s meetings, which then are finalized at the board of directors, before they are put into practice.
Financial Management
Expenses of NALC are supplied, not by a specific organization, but by its member fees, donations or grants raised from private sectors which support NALC's visions, and by incomes from businesses which NALC operates.
Regular Member fee: \ 3,000 per year (for a couple)
Supporting member fee: \10,000 and up per year ( for a group)
             \ 5,000  per year (for an individual)
Activities
NALC is a NPO with a wide network of volunteers who are earnest to create comfortable living environments and to challenge a rapidly aging society which we are now facing. Middle and senior persons who are proactive in life, bring together to contribute to the society with mutual helps and services to local communities.

For example, NALC members volunteer for------
   Trimming of garden trees, help of housekeeping, escorting,
   companion of talking, cleaning of parks, support of childcare,
   helping at care centers or welfare facilities.
Voluntary activities under Time Dollar System is currently operated in 138 locations in 40 administrative districts. NALC is aiming at developing 1000 locations in the near future so as to establish a nationwide network of NPO volunteers.


In an incident of The Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995, 4,500 members of NALC length participated in disaster relief activities for over 2 years, rendering services for a total of 20,000 hours time at their own expenses. ( NALC received a letter of appreciation from the Welfare Minister.)

Scope of Activities of NALC

The current population of Japanese seniors who need care is about 5 millions, out of which 2 millions are reportedly able to live by themselves if only a slight help is rendered. NALC intends to promote various voluntary activities, to help those who need helps.

# Effective usage of Nalc member's skills, experiences and expertise to contribute to the society or help seniors.
# Support of childcare as countermeasure against recent declining childbirth rate.
# Promotion for more positive participation in social and voluntary activities .
# Promotion of closer communications between local and regional communities to respond better to aging society, while proposing administrative measures and policies to local autonomies.
# Studies, researches, collection and supply of informations, campaignings and trainings relevant to senior life
# Publication of newsletters, visual aids and necessary documents, Circulation of 25,000 copies of periodicals.
# Gathering voices raised from middle aged and senior people to propose policy improvements for protection of their interests .
# Analysis of lifestyles of middle aged and senior people to reflect their needs for new products and services in marketplace.
# Providing vocational training with the unemployed, consigned by The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
# Lively meetings to prevent seniors from growing senile or being bedridden. (PC training, hiking, handicrafts, cooking, mahjong etc)
